Live today!

Okay, there aren't a lot of lyrics. But the song is magic. It has been living in my head for quite a while now and perhaps some of you will like it too. Live today!

Germany

Frankfurt airport - big. Not too cosy though. The nicest airport I've been to so far was Copenhagen's Kastrup. Frankfurt has these weird metal ceilings and big lamps which are used for illumination - the strange thing is that the lamps are pointed towards the ceiling, so not all the light is reflected - whoever thought that up? The ceilings give it a cold and unpleasant atmosphere. Terminal A is okay - at least they have a lot of places where you can sit down, which is not the case in Terminal B - very few sitting places - the usual thing is just to sit down on the floor... And for a nice view on the runways and all the Jumbo Jets, go to McDonald's in terminal B :)
Honestly, I had some stereotypes about Germany and thought it wouldn't be as exciting and fascinating as it was. North Rhine-Westphalia is really something! But we Lithuanians are spoiled by some things and that becomes obvious when going abroad. Shops are usually open until 20 in Germany. What?!!! In Lithuania they're working 'til 22 (usually) or even 24, heck, we even have one big supermarket in Vilnius' city centre which is open 24/7! As strange as it may seem, I've been told that people don't go shopping that late in Germany. Could be true. I was living in further away from the city centre and the streets were empty at 22! It was weird and felt as if it was already past midnight - again, judging by the way Lithuanian cities look at this hour.
Oh... Cologne, Bonn - wonderful cities, I miss them already. I'd prefer Bonn over Colongne though. The former capital is really nice - not very big, but that's what makes it special. And if you happen to be in Bonn - don't leave Königswinter and the nearby hills behind, you won't be sorry ;)

When travelling...

...be sure to pack only the stuff you REALLY need! So here I am again, back from another journey - this time it was a trip to Germany, by plane. It was fantastic!

Here are some things you don't really need to pack:
1. A book. Yes, if you actually plan to TRAVEL and not sit in the hotel. Since I did travel and only came back to the hotel late to sleep I wondered - where did the silly idea to take a book with me come from? And not one, oh no, I had to take two! It has only been a trip to Germany and back for these two, nothing else.
2. Too many things to wear. Okay, I didn't really take a lot of things, but my colleague did. Can you imagine bringing 4 pairs of shoes and only wearing 2 during your stay? 3 sweaters but never even needing them because it's hot? Déjà vu? Aha, me too. Another reason why you shouldn't pack too many things is that you will need more space for all the goodies you're bringing back home - let me tell you, it wasn't easy finding extra space for 6 bottles of beer!!!
3. A laptop. Forget the Internet! Forget work and movies - for another day. People used to live without Internet, computers and TVs back then - imagine that?

More on Germany still to come.

(...)

Nusivyliau.
Jei to neįvyko, vadinasi, neturėjo įvykti.
It‘s not having what you want – it‘s wanting what you‘ve got!
And life goes on…

Smile!

This one always makes me smile, not to mention that I was laughing like crazy the first time I saw it. I miss Benny. When I was around 7 years old, we had his show on TV, but only now I realise how much sense had been lost in translation! You can't really say United States of a miracle sounds like United States of America in Lithuanian, now can you? And other languages as well I guess...
