The latest discovery made me feel somewhat like a spastic. Moi, I always thought that Sirtaki was a traditional Greek dance. Well, TV is actually good for something - I found out that it's not!
It was actually created in 1964. The music was written by Mikis Theodorakis and this is how the dance looked in the movie:
Now there's a story to why the music goes from slow to fast as well. You see, Anthony Quinn, who played the title character, broke his leg during the filming. Of course he was no longer able to dance Sirtaki. That's why the image in the movie switches so suddenly from a closeup to something that looks like a panoramic view.
